SOIL HEALTH DIVISION – MMU BUA

Focusing on restoration of degraded soils, advocating and advancing conservation and regenerative practices; and assisting farmers with implementing of no-till technology and techniques.

CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE (CA) AND REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE (RA)

Enhancement of crops and grain production, assist and mentor emerging farmers to learn about and adopt CA and RA practices and to assist and mentor communities to adopt CA and RA practices.

HOLISTIC ANIMAL AND GRAZING MANAGEMENT DIVISION

Promoting and implementing Ultra High-Density Grazing (UHDG) systems and technology, mob grazing mimicking movement and grazing of large herds of grazers in nature; and environmentally friendly feedlots and animal husbandry.

GENETICS AND EMBRYO PRODUCTION DIVISION

Breeding of new veld adapted dairy cows from Nguni’s, Tuli, Drakensberger, Afrikaner, Mashona, Sanga, Boran, Jersey, Fleckview and Dexter, flushing of embryos for exporting and flushing and implanting embryos for improvement and export of sheep and goat breeds.

“MENTOR THE MENTOR” AND STUDENT TRAINING ON CA, RA AND
ECONOMY OF NATURAL CAPITAL

These training programmes will be done through a Student Training Academy, http://www.assetresearch.org.za/, led by Prof James Blignaut and Dr Shepherd Mudavanhu, a student of the Academy himself. Farmers will be trained to operate as mentors to other farmers with similar practices/farms and in close proximity to their farms. Fepa Sechaba will supervise and oversee the finances of this business to ensure legal and compliance requirements are adhered to Fepa Sechaba will assist with implementing and monitoring of budgets, execution of business plans and financial reporting on a quarterly and annual basis.

The degradation of natural capital, globally but also in Africa and then specifically South and southern Africa, has become an issue of major concern. It is impacting negatively on water and food security and affecting biodiversity and sustainable development in general. The detrimental impacts of the degradation on the well-being of people and the cost of living is intensified through changes in climate and the deepening social fragmentation and disillusionment; the entire society is increasingly more vulnerable and exposed to food and water security-related risks. These impacts are detrimentally affecting the lives of millions of people in countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, etc. Much can be done though.
